When an Airtable placeholder reads a field through a linked record field, DocsAutomator reads that field from every linked record and joins the results with commas. If several linked records share the same value, that value repeats. “Show unique values only” lists each value once instead.
This option applies to Airtable placeholders that read a field through a linked record. It appears in the placeholder settings only when the mapping uses that kind of path, for example Company name > Industry.

Example

An invoice record links to three projects, and all three belong to the same client. With four projects across two clients, the output changes from Acme Corp, Acme Corp, Globex, Acme Corp to Acme Corp, Globex. Values keep the order in which they first appear.

Map Through a Linked Record

In the field dropdown, pick a linked record field, then pick the field you want from the linked table. The mapping then reads like Company name > Industry.

Open Placeholder Settings

Click the gear icon next to the placeholder.

Toggle Show Unique Values Only

The option sits under “Delete paragraph / row when empty”.

Key Details

  • The setting is off by default, so existing documents keep their current output.
  • It works on main-table placeholders and on line item fields.
  • Each placeholder is set separately. Use Copy and Paste in the settings panel to apply it to another placeholder.
  • Values are compared as text, so two linked records only collapse when the value is identical.
