DocsAutomator is an official plugin in ChatGPT Plugins (called Apps before July 2026). Add it once, and ChatGPT can create documents from your templates, send them for signing or one-click acceptance, and tell you who has signed. It works in ChatGPT on the web, on desktop and on mobile. You need no server URL, no API key and no developer mode. ChatGPT signs in to your DocsAutomator account.

Add DocsAutomator to ChatGPT

Opens DocsAutomator in ChatGPT Plugins.

Install and connect

1

Open DocsAutomator in ChatGPT Plugins

Open the DocsAutomator plugin. You can also open Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar and search for DocsAutomator.
2

Click Install plugin

ChatGPT adds the plugin to your account.
3

Click Connect

Click Connect when ChatGPT asks. ChatGPT opens the DocsAutomator sign-in.
4

Sign in and allow access

Sign in to DocsAutomator, choose your workspace if you have more than one, and allow access.
Use it in a chat: ChatGPT uses DocsAutomator when your request needs it. To pick it yourself, type @DocsAutomator, or click + and type its name. Enterprise or Edu plan: an admin may have to enable DocsAutomator for the workspace first. If ChatGPT shows Disabled by admin, ask your admin. Added by hand before? If you added DocsAutomator to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, remove that entry, so that ChatGPT uses the plugin. More than one workspace: the connection is bound to the workspace you choose when you sign in. To switch, open the DocsAutomator plugin settings (steps 1 to 3 in Tools do not show up). Click Disconnect on the account, then click Connect another account and choose the other workspace.

What you can do

  • Create documents from a chat. ChatGPT reads the placeholders of an automation and fills them with the data you give it. The document uses your template, so the wording and layout stay the same every time.
  • Send for signing or acceptance. Name the person in your message (“send it to Anna at anna@example.com for acceptance”). ChatGPT passes the recipient with the document, and DocsAutomator sends the request. See Signing & Acceptance.
  • Check status and remind. Ask who has not signed or accepted yet. ChatGPT can send a reminder, send an invitation again or cancel a request.
  • Create e-invoices. When the e-invoice add-on is on, a document that ChatGPT creates is also an e-invoice (ZUGFeRD or XRechnung).
  • Build the automation. ChatGPT can design a Word template in your brand, use a template from the gallery or a Google Doc you already have, connect a record source such as Airtable or Notion, map the fields and set up delivery.
ChatGPT shows a document card with the first page of the PDF and buttons for the PDF, the Word file and the Google Doc. A status card lists each signing or acceptance request and the status of every recipient, with a Send reminder button for a recipient who has not finished.

Safe by default

  • The first document of a new automation goes out in test mode, unless you ask for live. A test mode request sends the real email to the real person and is never billed.
  • Before anything goes out by email, DocsAutomator asks you in a confirmation dialog that names the document and every recipient, when ChatGPT shows such dialogs. Nothing is sent until you confirm. Otherwise ChatGPT confirms the recipients with you in the chat.
  • Before a send, ChatGPT shows you the document as a preview. A preview is a watermarked PDF; nothing is sent and nothing counts against your plan.
How AI clients use DocsAutomator lists every rule and confirmation.

Example conversation

You: “Make a quote in the style of https://your-website.com and send it to me at you@example.com for acceptance. Use DocsAutomator and send it in test mode.” ChatGPT: designs a quote template in your brand, creates the automation and makes a preview. DocsAutomator asks you to confirm the recipient, then sends the quote in test mode. You: “Has it been accepted yet?” ChatGPT: shows the status card: the quote is waiting for acceptance by you@example.com, with a Send reminder button. Open the email, check the quote, type your name and tap Accept. The quote then shows as accepted under Documents, with the accepted PDF. More prompts to try:
  • “List my DocsAutomator automations.”
  • “Send the quote for record rec123 to Anna Weber at anna@example.com for acceptance.”
  • “Who has not accepted their quote yet? Remind them.”
  • “Describe the placeholders of my invoice automation so you can fill them.”

Tips

  • Give each automation a description under Automation Settings → Description. ChatGPT reads it and picks the right automation.
  • Record source accounts (Airtable, Notion, Google and the others) are connected once in the DocsAutomator app under Settings → Integrations. ChatGPT sends you the link when one is missing.

Tools do not show up

If ChatGPT does not show the DocsAutomator tools, or uses an old tool list, reconnect the plugin.
Do not use Uninstall to fix missing tools. Uninstall removes the plugin and every connected account.
  1. Click your name at the bottom left to open the profile menu, then click Settings.
  2. In the left column, under Integrations, click Plugins.
  3. Click the DocsAutomator row.
  4. Under Connected accounts, click the … button at the right of your DocsAutomator account.
  5. Click Reconnect, then sign in to DocsAutomator again. ChatGPT loads the current tool list.
  6. Start a new chat and type @DocsAutomator in the message box. An old chat keeps the tool list it started with.
Several connected accounts: each row under Connected accounts is a separate connection, and ChatGPT can use any of them. Keep one account for each workspace you use, and click Disconnect on the others. Several @DocsAutomator entries: pick the entry with the purple DocsAutomator logo and the text “Documents, signed or accepted”. The other entries are older connections with a fixed tool list.
